90 photos of Thick Red Termite Mounds
About 1.5 meters high large termite mounds.
These mounds populate the Australian outback in hundreds of thousands creating a network of tunnels that affects the ecology of the region.
Underneath the mound, it has a tunnel network 5 times bigger than the surface mound itself. It makes the soil more porous, helps to hold rainwater, and spurs vegetation growth.
Mounds colour depends on the soil type. White soil makes white mounds, brown to brown, black to black, red to red.
